BREAKFAST with the CHAMPION; CLIMATE ACTION RESOURCE MOBILIZATION.

TEAMEnvironment KENYA has been granted the adoption of 6.2 hectares (15 acres) of degraded land within the Ngong Hills, one of Kenya’s critical Water Towers, for conservation and ecological restoration. As part of our mission, we aim to showcase a model of sustainable landscape and ecosystem restoration through a comprehensive approach: protection, conservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of the designated area.

In this site, we plan to plant over 180,000 indigenous tree seedlings, contributing directly to climate change mitigation, global warming adaptation, and supporting SDG No. 13 (Climate Action). This initiative aligns with the Government of Kenya’s commitment to grow 15 billion trees by 2032, and our shared vision to increase national forest and tree cover.

To ensure the long-term success and sustainability of this ambitious project, we are currently mobilizing resources to:

The International Climate Action, Planetary Health, Environment and Energy Conference

The International Conference on Climate Action, Planetary, Environment and Energy is an inaugural conference arising from a strategic partnership and collaboration between Kabarak University, Team Environment Kenya, and the Kenya Forestry Research Institute. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on December 16, 2024, establishing a framework for public, private, and community partnerships in environmental conservation.

As part of this initiative, the partnership will facilitate the establishment of a ten-million-capacity tree nursery and seedling propagation center at Kabarak University, with a dedicated five-acre land allocation. This project will be officially launched by Honorable Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, during the inaugural annual conference themed:

“Climate Action, Green Growth, Sustainable Landscape Restoration, Agroecology, and Bamboo Expo”

The conference is scheduled to take place from July 14 to July 18, 2025, at Kabarak University. During this event, we aim to have at least five hundred thousand seedlings ready for transplanting, marking a significant step toward landscape restoration and climate resilience.

The Kabarak Botanical Garden: A Center for Conservation and Research

A key component of this initiative is the establishment of a Botanical Garden at Kabarak University. This garden will serve as a center for biodiversity conservation, research, education, and eco-tourism. It will feature:

The Kabarak Botanical Garden will be a landmark project in the region, fostering sustainability, environmental education, and green economic opportunities.

This initiative aligns with Kenya’s Vision 2030, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, reinforcing our commitment to combating climate change and restoring landscapes for a greener future.

We invite government agencies, private sector partners, academic institutions, environmental organizations, and the community to join us in this transformative journey toward a sustainable and resilient environment.
