The Inaugural Climate Action, Agro-ecology, Energy and Paper Presentation Conference Event held at the Kabarak University in July from Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th, was culminated with a tree planting exercise during which with the help of the environment club members we planted five hundred (500) trees in an effort to increase tree cover, restore ecosystems, promote sustainability, and combat climate change.
The session brought together the student’s fraternity, the environment club members, and institutional leaders in a great display of environmental responsibility and collective effort to climate action and environmental stewardship. Notable figures present included Dr. Awinda Lecturer School of Engineering, Science and Technology. The School President, Kabarak University Ms. Bilha Margaret Bilha, Founder, Roots of Hope Organization Ms. Mariam Abdirashid from Isiolo County, Journalist Mr. Yassin Ali from Go Green TV, the Vice Chair Environmental Club Kabarak University Mr. Juma Boto and the Executive Director Team Environment Kenya Mr. Mathew Ochanda. Their presence underscored a shared commitment to nurturing climate resilience through hands-on action and intergenerational collaboration.
The tree planting activity was the greatest highlight of the week-long climate action conference symbolizing growth, hope, and a renewed commitment to environmental stewardship and its sustainability. Speaking after the tree planting exercise the School President Ms. Margaret Bilha appreciated the students who participated in the week-long environmental events and activities and encouraged them to continue with environmental care and responsibility beyond the conference. “This is more than just planting trees—it’s about planting purpose, and sustaining the future of our planet,” she said.
Ms. Mariam Abdirashid, the founder of Roots of Hope organization from Isiolo County works to empower girls, women and communities in in the Northern Kenya in environmental conservation and encouraged young people to take up green leadership roles. Her sentiments were echoed by Mr. Ochanda, who noted, “Each tree planted is a heritage to future generations—a commitment to combat climate change, reverse the devastating effects of global warming and embracing sustainable agroecology.”
The event was covered by Go Green TV, amplifying the message of climate action and individual and collective environmental responsibility and therefore and inspiring communities across Kenya to join the National Environment and Conservation Movement, “TEAMEnvironment KENYA in our continued effort to Greening Kenya and taking part in reforestation efforts.
This initiative not only enhanced Kabarak University’s green landscape but also reinforced our commitment to ecosystem restoration in our fight against climate change. With an un weaver commitment to, “Leaving a Heritage for Future Generations of a Cleaner, Greener, (Food and Water) Secure Environment of Flora, Fauna and Aquatic Life” Now and for Posterity.
