TEAMEnvironment KENYA Championing Local Climate Action for Global Impact

As the celebrations kicked off in Kilifi County earlier this week and gear up to wrap in Kakamega at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology on Tuesday, October 12th, this year’s theme — “Local Youth Action for Sustainable Development Goals and Beyond” — echoes loudly across the country, the region and beyond.

Amid the set International Youth Day (IYD) national celebrations, Team Environment Kenya (TEK) is standing tall as a beacon of hope, resilience, and proactive youth engagement and leadership in climate action, environmental restoration and its sustainability.

In line with this year’s theme, TEK is spearheading a bold and transformative initiative to restore Ngong Hills, one of Kenya’s iconic natural ecosystem and water tower. This vision is rooted in the belief that youth are not just beneficiaries of tomorrow’s planet — they are the architects of today’s solutions.

As part of our commitment, TEK is proud to announce October as the SDG’s awareness creation Month — a Month-Long SDG’s Conclave Dialogue and Climate Action Innovation Conference, scheduled from Wednesday 8th and 9th Thursday October at Strathmore University with the activities and online and on ground engagement having started from Wednesday 1st to Saturday 18th October.

Over this period, young environmentalists/climate actors and change agents, and climate innovators will be converge daily in various dialogues and forums to discus each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The climax of this campaign will be the Ngong Hills Restoration Project, where we shall be conducting a twenty (20) Thousand Tree Planting (Growing) Expedition Eco-Tourism Edition. Come Plant Your Age under our initiative, #Trees for Birthdays.

This environmental festival will double as a Family Fun and Children’s Environmental Day. We therefore invite families, schools, corporates, and community groups to come and interact/bond with nature – do good to mother nature and the environment becoming part of the solution. This event shall provide you an eco-tourism experience, environmental education for kids and therefore being both impactful and memorable.

> “We shall not just be planting trees — but hope, purpose, and sustainability,” said *Yassin Ali*, TEK’s Communication Director and Media Strategist. “The restoration of Ngong Hills is symbolic of the youth reclaiming their role as custodians of the future and environment.”

Team Environment Kenya continues to champion the belief that climate action is not reserved for global boardrooms or high-level negotiations — it starts in our local communities, with young people leading the charge.

As we mark International Youth Day and look forward to the October dialogues, let this be a clarion call to #Let Us Go With Your and together #Keep Kenya Clean, Green and Breathing.
